Ombre Saturday

How was my fellow Canadian's long weekends? Hope it was safe and full of fun.

This past Saturday Lance and I had a casual day down at 17th Ave just walking around for a bit before we had dinner with my family. We actually had nothing planned for the weekend because Lance worked overnight on Friday and Saturday. It was really easy going as I was suffering from pretty bad migraines over the last few days.

We had the pleasure in checking out the donuts at Modern Jelly. They have quite interesting flavors and I liked the fruity ones. They were ridiculously HUGE. It was an interesting experience even though donuts aren't my thing. If you live in Calgary you guys should try it out at least once. The pretty fuchsia pink accents are what drew me in to the place. Has anyone else tried it? What are your thoughts? I believe they have a store in Toronto as well.

I recently bought this skirt in a sale at Forever 21 and I love the purple ombre look. The flowy top layer totally sealed the deal for me because it reminded me of the flowy dance skirts and the movement of this skirt is beautiful. I paired it with a simple loose white tee with a gold scallop necklace.

My shoes are Tell Me by Kenneth Cole Reaction. SUUUUPER comfy wedges. I love the faux snake skin detailing at the back and the ankle straps are convenient for me because the shoes doesn't fall off my feet. The rubber soles grip the floor so I don't feel like I'm tripping. Here's another picture of them.

Hope everyone has a lovely week ahead!

Patio Weather!... At Melrose...

A couple of Mondays ago, I met up with a couple of friends for some drinks on a patio in 17th Ave as the weather was GORGEOUS. We weren't sure where to go but eventually decided on Melrose because I saw some people drinking their fish bowl drinks from a couple of days ago. It made me want to have one LOL. Unfortunately, Melrose was out of it. Actually they were out of the Tomato Boccocini salad we wanted to order too... The salad was understandable, but your most expensive drink?

Since they didn't have the fish bowl, I asked the server to recommend me a drink. No, no, no, no. Terrible idea. He suggested the Bullseye. It was a blend of some kinda of strawberry syrup and liquor with Red Bull in it; which tasted just like strawberry medicine. I mean who wants to drink a glass full of that? Blegh! I finally settled for the Champeach which was okay... Not my cup of tea but whatever. I don't understand why you would put ice in champagne. Whose smart idea was this? Stupidly overprice for a tiny cocktail.

We ordered some appies to share all around. We had the chicken taco salad, spinach dip, ribs and poutine. Do not get the ribs unless you want something super salty. I mean extremely salty. Which is probably not a good idea as you may die of dehydration in this hot weather. Ahahhaa, I'm just joking. But seriously, skip it. The rest of the food was okay. There's nothing really to write home about since it is pub food.

Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience as I was actually excited to dine here. I am thankful that our server was great. He took the orders of the Bullseye and ribs back after we told him we didn't like it. We must have looked like a difficult group but can you blame us when almost all their food we wanted to get was out?

Thankfully we got some froyo after that disaster to make up for it. LOL.

Outfit of the day: Onesie top from Sirens and sailor skirt is from Forever 21.

Sandals are from Topshop and I am lovingggggg my nail polish. It changes in the sunlight.
My mother was pretty shocked when I showed her. Hahaha.

Cibo Calgary

Lance and I recently got into habit into having date nights once a week. It's usually Saturdays if both of our schedules permit. We decided to start trying new restaurants each date night as there is so many different kinds of food you can get now that Calgary is turning into quite the culinary destination. Last Saturday we decided to give Cibo a go. We've tried the food here once, but we didn't really enjoy it. I think I must have been in a bad mood or something last time, but we went back for a second try.

The one thing that we don't really like about this restaurant is the foyer/entrance area. As you step into the restaurant you are greeted by hostesses who are standing a couple of steps higher than you. It's kind of an awkward feeling as they look down while talking to you; kind of like when you're a child trying to talk to someone at a counter. We told our hostess we just wanted a table for two and she told us it would be a 30 minutes wait which we didn't mind because a. it was a Saturday and b. it was extremely sunny and packed everywhere on 17th Ave, so this was ok. Conveniently enough, the other hostess behind her said that there was available seating upstairs where she could seat us right now. Weee! While we were walking to our table, I noticed about 20 tables that were unused so I don't quite understand why the first hostess would tell us there was a 30 minute wait. Hmm...

Anywhoooo we over-ate like pigs. D=< Don't scroll down if you're hungry. I started with a Cibo Sangria which was pretty good. I like the soft red Italian wine they used in it, but I'm pretty allergic to wine. It makes my face blow up and turn really red. =( Does anyone else get this?

We had the scodellinas to start which are mini tapas to share. It was 5 for $18. We ordered the Smoked Ham Hock, Buffalo Mozzarella, Smoked Salmon, Eggplant Puree and Bresaola, and it all came with some baguette chips. Ahhh, the eggplant puree was so good. It makes me want to make some now that I recently got a food processor. *Big smile!* My second favorite was the smoked salmon with pistachios. *Drools* I can't say no to smoked salmon. I could eat it forever. The rest were kind of mediocre to me, but that's my food preference.

Next up we had the pappardelle and the ravioli. Mmmm, I actually really like their pasta. It has all the right flavors and ingredients that makes you just want to keep eating. Originally we were going to share both these pastas with one another but Lance basically claimed the pappardelle. He was saying how if anyone ever captured me and asked me what his favorite noodle or pasta is it would be pappardelle. What? Who thinks of things like this? Obviously him. He loved the olives in the pasta as well and normally I can't even get him to eat olives... What?! Weirdo.

The ravioli was lovely, but unfortunately I was kind of full from the appies. The sauce was uber creamy and delicious. I'm actually craving this right now. Omg, I can't write about food any more, especially when it's late at night. It just makes you crave everything. Terrible idea.

What I wore to dinner: top is from Urban Planet, skirt is from Sirens,
the cream sequins cardigan is from H&M and the shoes are Converse.

After dinner, we walked around for a bit before heading to Tutti Frutti for some froyo. Yeah, I don't know what we were thinking getting all of that, but it was damn good.
